TIFAC - 2011 Irvine Global Village Festival

Hello Friends,

It’s that time of the year again, The 2011 Irvine Global Village Festival is just around the corner. The Festival is the largest Multi-cultural event in Orange County and will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 10AM to 6PM at the Col. Bill Barber Memorial Park in Irvine - Admission is FREE. This will be TIFAC’s 3rd straight year participating in the festival and the Filipino Culture will be well represented again. This year, TIFAC will have a booth in the Cultural Exhibit area that is a bit bigger than we had last year (3 canopies instead of 2). For the first time, we will also have Cultural performances to share on the entertainment stage with the festival attendees. Our Filipino Cultural Dance Group will perform a suite of dances and songs and The Filipino Choir of the Filipino Outreach Group of St. John Neumann will also be performing on the stage. Tustin’s Manila Groove will also be offering Filipino cuisine in the Restaurant Row area. For the 2nd year, we are honored to have The Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Orange County join us in representing our Culture at the Festival.

As in the past, we rely heavily on volunteers to put on a successful showing at the Festival. We would like to humbly request your assistance in showcasing the Filipino Culture at the Festival. Here are the areas we need assistance in:

  1. Booth Set up and Construction
  2. Culture Exhibit Booth Volunteers – Recommended Shifts – 10AM to 12, 12 to 2, 2 to 4, and 4 to 6PM. (Filipino Cultural Dress Required)

  5. Tear Down & Clean Up
  6. Donate Food, Drinks, and/or Snacks for volunteers throughout the day
  7. We welcome monetary donations to offset costs incurred by the organization
  8. Invite additional family/friends to come with you, Attend the event, visit our booth – come by and say hi, watch and support the cultural performances, support the other Filipino related activities/business present at the Festival.

TIFAC - President's Update Feb. 2011

Hello Members and Friends,

I just wanted to give a quick update on the latest TIFAC news and developments:

1) Thank you to all who made our 3rd Annual New Year and 2nd Anniversary Celebration a huge success! This was the first event that TIFAC hosted in a hotel. Feedback from the attendees where overwhelmingly positive. We all had a great time dancing and enjoying quality time with family/friends. Congratulations to all the door prize and raffle winners.

2) Based on membership feedback and available resources, TIFAC will initially focus on the following Programs and Events for the first half of the year:

a) Irvine Global Festival Preparations - For the third year in a row, TIFAC intends to enhance our participation in this Irvine annual event. This year we would like to feature Filipino Cultural Dancing. We have a very talented dance instructor lined up to help choreograph, teach, and train us. All we need now is both children and adult participants. No previous dance experience necessary - so if you or your children would like to participate in some great cultural activities, celebrate the Filipino heritage, and/or get some excersise at the same time, then please indicate your interest by emailing us your/your children's name(s), grade/age group (20s-30s, 40s-50s, over 60s), and indicate any previous dance experience if any. We are also seeking volunteers to help our team develop/design our theme and the Filipino Community Booth for the event.

b) Bowling and Basketball - as part of our Health and Wellness and Social Activities initiatives, many members expressed interest in having Bowling and Basketball events and even forming leagues. In order for us to get these programs in place we will need to determine specific member interest. Again both beginner and experienced players are welcome. If you or your children are interested in Bowling and/or Basketball events or leagues please email us your/your children's name(s), grade/age group (20s-30s, 40s-50s, over 60s), and indicate any previous Bowling and/or Basketball experience. Also if you or someone you know has Bowling or Basketball coaching experience, please let us know - the help and input would be very beneficial to the group.

c) Tagalog and Filipino Culture Classes - as part of our Cultural and Youth Programs many members have expressed a keen interest in these classes for both adults and their children. We will need to determine specific interest so that we can develop the appropriate program(s) required by our organization. Please email us your/your children's name(s), grade/age group (20s-30s, 40s-50s, over 60s), and indicate your/each child's Tagalog fluency level on a scale from 0-5 (0=none, 5=fluent). We are also seeking volunteers with Tagalog/Filipino Culture teaching experience.

d) We are seeking more Senior volunteers to assist with our Seniors Committee. This committee will help to identify and implement Senior programs and events. Please email us if you are interested in volunteering.

Please email us your interest for any of the above programs/events by this Friday, Feb. 25 as committees, further planning, and program/activity development will start in March.

3) Social Networking - Our Public Relations and Communications team is busy upgrading and enhancing our website. Please stay tuned for the launch of the next version of our website. TIFAC now has a Facebook and Twitter presence. These along with our website will become a very important tool in communicating with members and delivering news and announcements.
