October 2009 marked the first time that TIFAC participated in the City’s Global Festival. It showcases the history, arts & culture of the Philippines. TIFAC would like to thank the Dept. of Tourism branch in Los Angeles for providing various materials & beautiful posters of Banaue Rice Terraces, Bohol, Fort Santiago in Manila to name a few. Our booth was honored by the presence of Consul General Mary Jo Bernardo Aragon. Next year, TIFAC “tahanan” (home) in the festival will be bigger to accommodate more visitors.

TIFAC launched typhoon Ondoy Relief Operation
During the last week of September, TIFAC was mobilized to extend help to our unfortunate “kababayans” who were victims of the super typhoon Ondoy. It was Raissa Soyangco (as she was also sending help to her family) who informed Sarah Dela Cruz, the President of TIFAC, that some cargo companies were shipping donations for free. TIFAC gathered more than 10 balikbayan boxes of new & used clothing, canned goods, footwears, blankets, etc. The TIFAC Pres likewise sought the help of Ben’s Pharmacy thru the kindness of Dr. Brad Borsari of St. Jude Heritage Foundation for some over-the-counter (otc) medicines for colds, cough & diarrhea. The pharmacy donated a big box of various otc medicines. The response was overwhelming and it was truly a “bayanihan” effort.
